SWEATER stretches down the left side of the design, while WEATHER sits beneath the walking couple. Their knit hats and sweater details bring a nostalgic touch to the woodland scene, with a slender evergreen and snowflakes completing the winter story.

The design is cut into the steel, with genuine open spaces allowing the background behind your sign to show through. Those openings are not white paint, printed artwork, or a backing panel.

Lean it beside your front door with a crock of evergreen branches, mount it near an entry bench, or hang it beside a covered porch seating area using suitable hardware of your own. Plaid blankets, birch branches, pinecones, and a favorite pair of porch chairs make natural companions.

This piece feels especially at home on a cottage, cabin, or rustic farmhouse porch. Enjoy it during the holidays and leave it out through the quieter winter months—its snowy walking scene celebrates the season beyond Christmas. It also makes a thoughtful handmade gift for a couple who loves woodland walks, cozy weekends, and a welcoming home.

Choose your finish

Raw
Raw steel as it comes from the steel mill, cleaned before shipment but otherwise unfinished and unsealed. It will naturally oxidize and develop rust or patina over time. The speed and appearance of that aging depend on humidity, weather, handling, atmosphere, and where the piece is displayed.

Rusted — The Dirt Road Gardener’s signature hand-rusted finish
Our Rusted finish is genuine rust, started by hand using ordinary household ingredients including vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and salt. It is not paint, faux rust, powder coating, or a printed finish.

We intentionally leave the steel unsealed so it can continue naturally rusting and developing a deeper patina. Variations in color, texture, and rust pattern are expected and are part of the character of genuine weathered steel.

Rust may transfer to hands, clothing, walls, flooring, furniture, or other surfaces it contacts. Please consider surrounding surfaces when choosing your display location. If you love the appearance as it arrives and want to help slow continued oxidation, you may choose to apply an appropriate clear protective coating after receiving it.

Flat Black
A flat black finish gives the lettering and woodland scene a bold presence against lighter backdrops. Pair it with cream textiles, natural wood, and evergreen foliage for a simple winter display.
